Our Code

Members of the 100 follow a strict and healthy diet, are tasked to plan, execute, and record 1000 community-based projects, to teach peace education, to engage in environmental self-defense, and to live their practice as an example to their students, members of their communities, and to all people who expect authenticity and self-discipline from teachers who have committed their life to the practice of the martial arts.

Our instructors have each made a solemn commitment to this extraordinary code of conduct, an engaged practice of the martial arts on and off of the mat, and an extensive course of community engagement.

General guidelines for membership in this group, include:

  • Being in top shape. Yes, we get injured on occasion –and yes, everyone gains 5 pound over the holidays, but overall, to be on this team you must train — and train hard. We’re all working on being in the best shape we can be.
  • An on-going diary of training and adventures — if we’re going to show and tell people how to be better martial arts teachers, then we have to show and tell them about how we’re doing it for ourselves.
  • Dietary self-defense is a part of our program — we’re working on becoming actively involved in “The Diet Chronicles.”
  • We teach Peace first. You must have a cool head, be ready for conflict (as it’s coming), and be able to make clear win-win choices when times get tough. We will have NO angry outbursts, no ego-tantrums, and no blaming session among this group. There is ALWAYS a way to be clear — and find the peaceful path.
  • We are working on earning certificates in both ANGER Management (fee involved) and a Certificate of Mastery in Peace Education (free from Teacher’s Without Borders).
  • ENVIRONMENTAL issues — we participate in Adopt-A-Highway and have been working on greening our home, offices, and general environment.
  • Project portfolio — with our students help, we are working tirelessly until we’ve reached 1000 community project. You can find our projects on the National Leadership Team Site as well as here.
  • Respect — We show respect for our teachers, past and present.
  • Pricing & Fee transparency — we do NOT participate in manipulative sales methods, one-sided “contracts,” and practice only the most open, honest, and integrity-based business practices will be permitted.
